To the best of my knowledge the
arched shape registry postmark is a Constabulary marking and not of the
San Fernando, La Union Post Office. The Constabulary had its own way of
keeping track of its registered official mail and in some provincial offices
those in-charge came up with their own registry devices. It must be noted
that the Bureau of Posts in Manila had the sole authority to produce and
distribute to its provincial offices canceling devices. In cases where
a provincial post office was in urgent need for a new registry control
device, the postmaster was authorized to produce one in the standard form:
either boxed-in or basic straight line. Fancy shaped devices were not allowed
by the head office in Manila. |
